Envelope Guest Book

I have a friends wedding coming up in July. Ive made some projects in the past for the family as gifts. So when she got engaged almost two years ago she immediately asked me to do the cake and cupcakes for the wedding. I was so flattered and of course said yes. That date seemed ages ago! Now its only a short 2 weeks away. And stuff is falling into place. They also asked me to make a completely handmade custom wedding guest book for the reception. And do I ever love the way it turned out! Everything is going to be white and Tiffany blue. Great colors for cake and paper! I started with an 8×8 canvas 3 ring album. The texture on it is so simple and beautiful. I found perfectly matched card stock and cut it down to size. Double backed each page for durability and punched some holes in each page. For the title page I decided to use the invite for the wedding (it has a matching oversize envelope waiting in Calgary) It sets the elegance for the rest of the book.

For all the other pages of the book I used mini envelopes with matching slips to write well wishes for the happy couple. I love how simple the idea is, but how it looks finished has its own elegance. I cant wait to see it filled with everyones kind words. The last page is a special happily ever after for the Mr&Mrs to write a little something to each other!

I think I am so in love with it that I will be making a second one for the little mans’s baby shower in the fall!

Glass Wall Decals

I bought this lovely little wall art design back in October. I loved it so much but I knew we were thinking about moving within the next year and a half. I didnt want to leave it behind. So I had this wonderfully easy idea! I bought an oversize frame, (on sale!) removed the back and laid out the wall decal. It sticks to the glass as easy as it would a wall but now its transferable! I can take it anywhere I want.

Or I would have been able to had it worked as well as I planned. The last step was to hot glue gun the glass to the frame so I didn’t need to metal prongs on the back anymore. Well it was going great, until! I didn’t see one prong was still down slightly. As I pushed the final corner into the frame it hit the prong and that distinct sound of glass cracking rang loud through my living room. I’m not gonna lie it was my first pregnancy moment where normally this would have been a darn, try again tomorrow. But this time full out tears and yelling at the frame and curling up on the couch with a blanket over my head. But it was a small mistake I can fix next time! I went out and bought another quote, and I’ll be looking for another frame on sale in the coming weeks.

You can do this with any store bought wall decals or make your own with a cricut cutter and vinyl. Its a great idea and can really focus your style in a big impact with small effort. And now you even know what not to do!

Mini Cupcake Stands

As you may have noticed I have just a few cupcakes and cake stands. These are the worst to collect since they are massive and do not store well at all! But have no fear I have the best solution to always wanting more and no space! Mini individual cupcakes stands!

They are easy peasy to make! Grab some spare card stock, scissors and download this template. Its so perfect! I just love them. Just cut around the edges and slide the stand together. You may want to add a dot of hot glue to make it more sturdy, as well as the top to the stand. Your possibilities are endless with this. Patterns, colors, even vary the size of your template! I cant wait to make more now that I know how easy and cute they are!

And as always I would LOVE to see any takes you make on this project! Just email me your pictures to lissables@gmail.com

You Have One Week

So dont forget! Mothers day in one week. And if that just made you panic have no worries I have some easy gifts you can make. Every mom loves something made from your heart. So take a peek and see if there is something your mom would love. After all its one day a year for the hundreds they have given you. Make her day special.

So your not a crafty person but you want to put a hand touched spin on some store bought jewelry. The easiest thing for you is this! Take your earrings and pin them through a beautiful big leaf. Simple but elegant. Go a step further and write a sweet little message in a silver pen to make it stand out.

If your mom is a is crafty why not give her a mini sewing/mending kit! With just a little retrofitting, an old-fashioned Mason jar can become a new sewing kit with a built-in pincushion on top. To begin, separate the lid’s sealer and screw cap. Trace around sealer on cardboard. Using a compass, draw another circle on linen or cotton, 1 inch larger in diameter than the first. Cut out both circles; make cushion by placing batting between fabric and cardboard. Turn screw cap upside down, and apply hot glue to inside edge of rim; quickly press cushion into lid until cloth protrudes smoothly above screw cap’s opening and cardboard is flush against rim. Apply hot glue around edge of cardboard, fold over excess fabric, and press down. Glue top of sealer to cardboard. Fill jar.

If flowers are a mothers day tradition for you, put a fresh new spin on it. Flowers that dont die! Easy to make, maybe something the kids will like to help out with! Very easy step by step instructions.

1. Layer 5-by-15-inch sheets of tissue paper, alternating colors. Make 1-inch-wide accordion folds.2. Wrap 1 end of a pipe cleaner around the center of the folded paper, and twist to secure. Round the edges of the folded paper with scissors.3. Fan out folds, and gently pull apart each layer of tissue paper to create petals.

And lastly a little fun crafts for the kids in your life who want to make something special for mom. Every mom loves seeing their kids artwork but doesnt it make it special when its in her own newspaper! Your kid can customize the front page for her morning read. Simply Print the newspaper clip art onto ivory paper, fill in, and add a drawing or a photo. Just too cute!

Lots of fun easy things to make out there. Even if its just a card make next Sunday a special day for the mothers in your life.

Easter Peep Wreath!

After posting all those spring crafts yesterday I was so inspired. And what better thing to inspire you even further than peeps! They just scream spring and Easter. Plus there was extra’s left over for eating! Always a good ending to a craft session. This was so easy to make and even better and cheep cheep (I just had to do that,) project.

Total cost was 10$ and that is including the hot glue gun, because I cant find mine. 3 for the glue gun which came with sticks, 3 for the wire wreath frame, and 4 (1$each) for the bunny peeps. Now you know you cant turn this down. So I turned on my grey’s anatomy which needed catching up on, and half an hour later this is hanging on my pantry door. Its really that simple, pull apart the bunny’s, lay them all out so you like your pattern, and then hot glue gun four dots in a square and press each one down. Repeat repeat repeat until your done! Add a bright little bow and you have the perfect Easter wreath! And just in time too because grey’s just got interesting again.

Brandon told me it was the cheesiest/dorkiest thing he’s seen. But thats ok because I am a cheesy dorky person and I like that. And I like my bright cheery wreath. I hope you do too!

Thank you’s & Cupcakes

There was a couple people we know that went above and beyond for us today. So I set to making thank you cards right away. This is my standard go to pattern for a thank you card. I just love it, its easy and so so cute. I had some extra paper on hand. I don’t love the look of the colors in the end but I wanted to make some cards quick. So I’ll share them anyways.

Fold your paper to make a standard card. I used my cricut and the George and basic shapes cartridge to make a 3 1/2 inch silhouette heart. Then I glue the heart to the front of the card. Then I use an exacto knife to cut out the inside. I used pop dots to make the inside of the heart on the inside of the card stand out. Then you can write a little cute phrase. I liked Thank you on the front and “from the bottom of my heart” on the inside. Or “from our heart to yours.” Tada instant cute card.

And finally my Banana’s turned! Or so I thought. They were black all over. I peel them. They look brand new. They even feel great! What? I am convinced Banana’s know what you want to use them for and refuse to obey that thought. I want mine to go bad they stay fresh. Brandon wants his to last longer than 2 days they go over night! Its Banana’s! (TeeHee)

So I made Banana bread. I made a loaf and I made some cupcakes to give away. I have got to say Banana Bread baking is THE best smell in the world. In fact its still all I can smell in my house and that is both wonderful and dangerous. The even more dangerous part was when I stumbled on a happy accident. I had left over Nutella buttercream from Sunday and tested the thought. AMAZING. Yum I think I’m going to have to forever make Nutella Buttercream every time I make Banana Bread cupcakes. MMmm but my favorite is a couple slices from the fresh loaf that is slightly crispy from cooling, and lots of butter. Excuse me because my mouth is now watering and I need to go eat exactly that!

52 Reasons to Love You

This is my unfinished project. But its perfect for a Vday present. All your going to need is a permanent marker/pen, a deck of card, some protective finish spray, and a little bit of imagination. I made mine for my mom for her birthday in a couple weeks. But since she flies through here tonight I needed it ready early. And since I’ve also been cleaning like mad! haha its my mom after all. Since Ive been busy I havent completely put it together but you will get the idea.

A pack of cards has 52 cards, 52 reminders of love. I wrote down one reason in each card why I love my mom. Funny ones, silly ones, real ones, little ones, big ones. A special little reminder someone can carry with them and pull out on a down moment. Its a great way to make a mini album for someone as a gift. I plan on adding some pictures to the back of some of the cards too. Then put them all on a jump ring and tada you have the perfect gift for someone you care about.

Happy Saturday everyone!

Felt Fortune Cookies

This has been my favorite project of the “14 days of Valentines” Ive been putting it off because I thought it would be a lot of work. Turns out I was half right. They are time consuming. But so worth it! I mean could they be any cuter!

Its a simple assembly line craft. And you can make it even simpler. Grab some felt (it can be any color, I wanted mine to be a realistic color, but I have seen them in pink and red for a valentine theme too.) A marker, some paper, a cute Chinese take out box and your option between hot glue gun or a needle and thread with sew one snaps. To make your circles you can use any item around your house. I choose a wide mug. I would go a wee bigger with mine next time, but its all about experimenting.

After you cut out all your circles, fold them in half. Here you will choose to either glue your two points together, or do what I did and sew on snaps. I wanted to be able to open mine up and when I was looking at these most of them were glued shut. But I figured no sense in that. Although it would have been easier. I just eyeballed mine after folding it in half. One on each side and then brought them together and they make a fortune cookie!

Write down your special secret message on a little piece of paper. Whether it be a little love note or a special 4 word question. Fortune cookies always make people smile, so make some everlasting one. And even better no calories!

Handmade for Him

So as most of these crafts surrounding Valentines Day are themed with pink and hearts they dont scream manly. But you can still make handmade gift for him. Over the years I have made Brandon quite a few from the heart gifts. He doesn’t care to spend money on himself but I like to have a little something wrapped up for special occasions.

The first gift he ever received was definitely a homemade item. I was visiting him and had no extra money as mine was tied up with a “going to make my own in Europe”(that ended little over a month later, but for the better as he came to get me, maybe it was all because of the amazing gift I made him!) So I got creative and told him he couldn’t come into the living room for an hour. We had just watched Fever Pitch, as he is a die hard Red Sox fan. And I knew where my inspiration was taking me. I already had two permanent markers, and I snuck into his bathroom and stole a roll of toilet paper. Yes toilet paper. See in the movie he has an apartment dedicated to everything Red Sox, except his toilet paper. As every true Red Sox fan wants to wipe his behind with the Yankee’s. So I gave him that gift and seeing his smile and surprise was completely worth the time it took. So draw inspiration from something that is special to your other half, even if it is super silly!

My second handmade for him is a little easier. A coupon book. You’ve seen them everywhere in the stores, but isn’t is better to have one customized. You only need some spare paper and a pen. I also suggest stamps and ink to jazz it up a little. From hugs and kisses to more just for him items, like sitting through an entire football game. (sometimes its painful to fulfill those coupons, I didn’t quite realize how long a football game is.) So have fun with this one!

Basically anything from the heart counts. So make something special for your sweetie. Because its not always about us!

Clothes Pin Frames

I recently was shopping, by that I mean looking at all the pretty things I cant afford to buy. I came across this big frame divided with a cork board, white board and a small corner with three clothes pins to hang messages from. I thought it was such a cute idea, I also thought no sense paying for that when I can make my own! I do this often as shopping is the best inspiration. So I found a frame in the clearance section of the same store for 3 dollars, had some more cute paper laying around and got a huge pack of clothes pins for 1.50 at the grocery store. (I have another project with them in mind too)

So as you guessed this is super easy, cheap and cute! This seems to be the theme of the 14 days of Valentines. Which is good or else my hubby might put a stop to how many crafts are being put together! Anyways here it is. Take your frame, remove the glass cut a section of paper to match the size. Put only the paper back in as you wont need the glass anymore. Take your clothes pins now, if you want you can choose to paint yours as I did to match the frame. When they are dry, glue them to the paper. Tada! your done. Seriously. My best advice would be the bigger the frame the better. I also found that vertical vs horizontal is better, you have just a little more room to hang bigger items.

And if you find you love clothes pin displays so much you may want to head down to Michaels dollar isle this week. I found fun giant clothes pin displays in a range of bright colors. I choose black because its for my bedroom but if you have a bright room or a teenager in the house this would be a cheap and unique display to brighten the room. I love mine!

If you don’t feel like making something but still like the clothes pin look, you can swing down to pier one and pick up there display frame. My mom bought one, when when it wouldn’t fit in her suitcase going home I inherited it! Don’t worry I’m a good daughter and when she got home there was a surprise waiting for her, I had my dad pick one up in Canada and it was waiting for her. What I like best about it is leaving little messages for company when they come to stay, as its in my spare room. Like my photo? Its my only one so “Hi Mom!”
